Arturo was born in 1920 in Sesto Al Reghena, Province of Pordenone. After serving in WWII, the call of a better life brought him to Toronto in 1948. As with many new Canadians he worked in the construction business, however did not stay for long. He went on to work as an Auto Body Technician until he retired. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, making salami, wine and drinking grappa.
Ofelia (Fedora) was born in 1921 in Zoppola, also in the Province of Pordenone. She immigrated to Canada in 1950 and settled in Toronto where she worked as a Seamstress before she was married. After her children were older, she worked in the Deli department at a local grocery store for many years. She enjoyed hosting and attending dinner parties with her extended family. Sewing was her favourite hobby, often making matching outfits for her young daughters. She was known to make the best crostoli and pizza, her signature dish was Vitel Tonne.
Arturo and Ofelia met at a friend’s house and were married in August 1953. They bought a house in Toronto where they had three girls. After several years they moved to North York. They worked hard to have a good life, felt it important to enjoy time with their family and always took a yearly vacation. Wasaga Beach, Haliburton Highlands and southern destinations were their favourite places to go.
Ofelia died when she was 63, Arturo at 89.
