Bot

Silvio Bot was the founder of Bot Construction. He led the company over 40 yrs of growth and expansion and was a prominent member of Ontario’s roadbuilding industry.

He was born into a traditional Italian family with 5 siblings living in a small farming community in the northern Friuli Region. He grew up under the Mussolini regime and served in WWII. Looking to escape the difficulties of post-war and pursue a better life, he sought sponsorship to Canada, a pre-condition for immigration at the time. Arriving by boat at New York City (Ellis Island) at the age of 23 on Oct. 25,1948 with literally pennies in his pocket.

Sponsored by a Cdn farmer he crossed the border to Southwest Ontario. He eventually settled in Oakville working for Halton Paving, building curbs, gutters and culverts. He became a foreman and superintendent and learned the construction business from the ground up.

In 1957 he pursued entrepreneurship and took a chance by creating his own curb and gutter forming business, along with his bros Jack, Carlo & Luigi.

He married Doris Pellegrini in 1954 and had 3 children, Roy, Steve and Nancy. By 1995, (the time of his passing), Bot Construction had grown to be one of Ontario’s largest privately owned road building organizations. His children own & operate this business as of present day.

Silvio has been inducted into the Ontario Road Builders Hall of Fame and formally commemorated in his hometown of Morsano al Tagliamento. A Foundation in his honor was created to help fund the research of Meningioma and other neurological ailments.
