Murano
This is the journey of my incredible father Carmine Murano. Carmine was born in the city of Ciro, Calabria in 1953. From a young age Carmine was ahead of his time with great potential. Against his mother’s wishes, but with the encouragement of his grandfather, he moved to Canada at the age of 16. In 1969 Carmine left Ciro and arrived in Toronto. Carmine planned to stay in Canada for 2 years and then return to Italy, but his destiny changed when he met his future wife. Carmine and his wife married in 1975 and later had four children. They settled in East York which was a predominantly Sicilian neighbourhood. Carmine went to school at Centennial College with very little English and obtained his Mechanic License as he always had a love for cars from a young age. At the age of 24, he opened an Auto Mechanic garage which has been serving customers for almost 50 years. The Italian values and traditions from Carmine’s family in Ciro are an integral part of his life in Canada. Ciro is known for making some of the best red wine in Italy and his father was known in the region for producing some of the best vineyards and grapes. Making wine and Calabrian cooking is a part of Carmine’s household which has been passed down to his children. Despite being continents away and the only one of his siblings to settle in Canada, the connection between his family in Ciro and his family in Toronto are strong. Carmine is honest, has a big heart, strong family values and a willingness to help anyone in need. He continues to work, enjoys tending to his garden, making wine and spending time with his grandchildren. Thank you Dad for the sacrifices you have made, your hardwork and the work ethics and values you have instilled in us, we love you! Love your daughter, Mariangela Murano.
